Amma's Malaysian Sambal - Cook, marinade, dip!

Amma’s Malaysian Sambal is a heartfelt tribute to my Amma (mother), Siva, whose passion for food has always been about creating moments of togetherness. This signature blend has been refined over time in her kitchen, and it holds a special place in my journey growing up and carries her legacy of sharing her love through cooking in every jar. Although she never got to see it launch officially, we made this together to give you a taste of home away from home as if she's with you in the kitchen every time you open her sambal. 

So what is sambal you ask? Sambal is a traditional chilli sauce or paste that is used across Southeast Asia, most popular in Malaysia and Indonesia. Not to be confused with South Asian sambol, which is a dry condiment often made using shredded coconut, sambal is a thick paste made using ground chilies, garlic, onion, and often shrimp paste. Ours begins with bright lemongrass and ginger notes, followed by rich umami flavours, and ends with a warm, lingering heat from Thai chili peppers, and no shrimp paste. It is a flavour bomb that is as versatile as it is spicy.

Please note that this is not sambal belacan because it does not contain prawn paste and is also gluten-free and vegan.
